Takano Bamboo
Takano Bamboo (高野竹工) embodies the strength of nature shaped by human care. Based in Nagaokakyo, Kyoto—an area long known for exceptional bamboo—the workshop has been crafting bamboo and wood objects for generations, creating tools that are rooted in tradition yet suited to modern life.
Central to Takano’s philosophy is a deep respect for materials and process. The studio manages its own bamboo groves, harvesting bamboo at the optimal moment and subjecting the bamboo to a long, careful preparation process that includes natural drying, heat treatment, and extended rest. This patient approach draws out bamboo’s natural resilience, flexibility, and refined grain.
Takano’s craftsmen carry forward techniques passed down over decades, combining traditional bamboo craft with woodworking and lacquer practices. Each object is made with sensitivity to the material’s character, resulting in pieces that feel balanced, natural, and enduring.
Whether a pair of lacquered bamboo chopsticks or a simple utensil, Takano Bamboo’s works bring elegance to everyday moments—objects that honor nature, craftsmanship, and the pleasure of use.
